N’Zogbia eyes “bigger club”

(GSM) Wigan s Charles N Zogbia has admitted he would be tempted to leave Wigan if a bigger club wants to sign him in the summer. The Frenchman joined the Latics from Newcastle in the Winter transfer window of 2009.

N Zogbia has, since his move away from the Magpies, improved his reputation and he has now revealed that he wishes to make an eventual high-profile move.

There have been plenty of rumours about me in the press, he told France Football.

Now I want to reach a new level and gain more experience.

My objective when I left Newcastle was to play for a medium-sized club, before bouncing back in a big team.

I hope that will be the case next season. Everything comes to he who waits.

Can Neil Lennon turn things around at Celtic?

The man to take Celtic to glory?

Thirty-eight year old Neil Lennon is the new full-time manager of Celtic and he has the job of trying to revive interest and excitement in the club.

Embarrassing

Last season saw the club fall out of the title race early, have embarrassing cup defeats and a disastrous European campaign. Towards the end of the season we saw the unusual sight of vast areas of empty seats at Parkhead whilst Celtic toiled away on the pitch.

Most of the embarrassment came under the managerial spell of Tony Mowbray although Lennon was in charge for the worst of all, the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of First Division Ross County.

Dispirited

Other than that terrible defeat, Lennon did pretty well with a dispirited s…

Tottenham Hotspur s Hugo Lloris is the best sweeper-keeper in the Premier League.

Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has been singled out for criticism for his performance in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat against Everton, conceding from every shot on target that he faced at Goodison Park.

The 33-year-old, who was signed from Barcelona in the summer, joined amid controversy as fan-favourite and long-serving shot-stopper Joe Hart was forced out. But given manager Pep Guardiola wanted a trusted ball-player between the sticks this season, why was Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris overlooked?

Athletic Bilbao 2 Atletico Madrid 2: Griezmann magic rescues point

Atletico Madrid rescued a 2-2 draw away to Athletic Bilbao thanks to a brilliant strike from Antoine Griezmann.

The France star blasted home from 25 yards to stretch his side s unbeaten run against Athletic to seven matches after the home side had come from behind to take the lead at San Mames.

Koke s cross bounced beyond Griezmann and into the far corner to give the visitors a promising start, as they looked to react to victories for top two Real Madrid and Sevilla this weekend.

Athletic, however, responded with a stylish equaliser from Inigo Lekue before De Marcos powered in a header in the second half to cap one of their better performances of the season.

Atleti pressed in the closing stages but gave goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz little to be worried abou…

Vertonghen open to Premier League stay

Speaking to , Jan Vertonghen has refused to rule out staying in the Premier League after leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The versatile defender, primarily a centre-back but sometimes deployed on the left flank, spent nine years at Spurs and made a total of 314 appearances in all competitions for the club. He has accumulated 118 international caps with Belgium as well in his career so far. Despite talks about a potential extension throughout the 2019/20 season, his contract has expired and both the player and the club have confirmed the parting of ways.

At the age of 33, Vertonghen can certainly offer a lot to any potential suitor and given his quality and vast experience, he shouldn t be short of offers at the moment, especially as a free agent. Both Manchester…

Ajax and Chelsea have similar philosophies – Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag compared Chelsea s philosophy under Frank Lampard to that of his own Ajax side ahead of their Champions League clash.

Chelsea have won seven of their 13 matches since Lampard replaced Maurizio Sarri in July, including five victories in a row ahead of their trip to Amsterdam.

Lampard has used Chelsea s transfer ban to his advantage by promoting the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount into the first team, but his side trail Group H leaders Ajax by three points after two matches following their home loss to Valencia last month.

Ajax caught the eye during their run to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season and have yet to taste defeat in any competition in 2019-20, though Ten Hag linked with the Chelsea job prior to Lampard s appointment …

MLS move perfect for Henry

French international star Thierry Henry has agreed to join MLS side New York Red Bulls.

The 32 year-old striker has joined on what has been described as a ‘Multi-year’ contract.

Henry had a year left on his contract with Barcelona but the Catalan club have allowed him leave on a free transfer.

Playing Time

Last season Henry struggled to get into the Barca first team after the emergence of youngster Pedro. He didn’t have the same impact as he had in previous seasons and it seemed inevitable that he would move on.

He is much more likely to get regular playing time in New York and he’s bound to shine in the MLS. The standard of play is poorer than La Liga and will get far more space in the American league. He could have carried on playing in…
