Need a boost to get through the middle of the week? Well, you’ve come to the right place.I’m locking in on the MLB and NBA, with baseball serving as an appetizer and dessert while Game 3 of the NBA Finals stands in as the main course.Colorado Rockies at Minnesota TwinsColorado has never been able to solve Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez.Lopez is 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA in four career starts against the Rockies, most recently holding them to one unearned run and four hits in seven innings on June 22, 2022.But Colorado might be starting to click a little bit, and this isn’t the same version of Lopez that we’ve seen in years past. The Rockies are averaging 8.1 hits over their past seven games, while Lopez has been tagged for at least six runs in three of his past four outings. It’s the p…
Infielder J.D. Davis and the Oakland Athletics agreed to a one-year contract, the team announced Saturday. Financial terms were not disclosed by the A's. However, multiple media outlets reported the deal was worth $2.5 million with an additional $1 million in incentives. Davis, who turns 31 on April 27, was released by the San Francisco Giants on Monday after defeating the team last month in salary arbitration. He was awarded a $6.9 million salary for 2024 in arbitration but will only receive approximately $1.1 million from the Giants since he was released more than 16 days before the start of the regular season. Davis batted .248 with a career-best 18 home runs and 69 RBIs in 144 games last season. He played 116 games at third base and 15 contests at first base. In seven major…
Former Kings defenseman Slava Voynov has not played in the NHL since October 2014, when he punched, kicked, and choked his wife, and pushed her head into a TV screen. Voynov pleaded no contest to a charge of spousal abuse, served 90 days in jail, was suspended indefinitely, and had his Kings contract terminated. Rather than face potential deportation proceedings, he moved back to his native Russia, where he won a Gagarin Cup in the KHL and a gold medal at the 2018 Olympics. Voynov’s conviction was dismissed last summer after he completed his three years of probation, and now he’s considering returning to the NHL. He’s going to have to wait a while longer for that. Today, the NHL announced that Voynov will be suspended for all of next season. The league’s statement: The Nationa…
Some people are fans of the Green Bay Packers. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Green Bay Packers. This 2016 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the previews so far here. And buy Drew’s new book here. Your team: Green Bay Packers. Your 2015 record: 10-6. Let’s get right to the ending… God, it’s so beautiful. It’s almost as good as Brandon Bostick dropping the onside kick. Remember when he did that? And you blew the NFC title because of it? That was really cool and fun. Anyway, as a Vikings fan who just heard that Teddy Bridgewater died in practice today, the only time I am happy is when the Packers blow yet another season of having Aaron Rodgers at QB. Luckily for me, the Packers have become EXPERTS at this. This is team that…
Some people are fans of the Denver Broncos. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Denver Broncos. This 2013 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the 2013 NFL previews so far right here. Your team: Denver Broncos Your 2012 record: 13-3. One more time, for posterity: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" By the way, Rahim Moore is still in Denver. As a football player! They aren't making him work the merch stand or anything. They're actually letting him back onto the field after that happened. I know dabbing is legal in Colorado now, but Broncos fans aren't forgetting that shit so easily. Your coach: John Fox. He played for overtime. I don't give a shit if he coaches thirty more years. He's the guy who played for overt…
AJ Daulerio's Cultural Oddsmaker runs every Friday. Email him to let him know what you think. Oh, and apologies, again, to The Dugout. When ESPN's Tom Jackson shot down Michael Irvin's "Manning vs. Manning" commentary last week with the moderately offensive "Are you retarded?" question, a few were a little taken aback. Yes, Jackson could've been more sensitive by calling Irvin "mentally challenged," or "a mongoloid" or, even better, attempted to make his comment more complimentary, like, by calling him the much more inspirational "fat-tongued hero." But, retard it was. And aside from The Internets, it seems to have been overlooked greatly by much of mainstream media. Maybe it was glanced over because of Jackson…
data-mm-id=”_lvmvc9u5m”>Graham Harrell may be moving on from USC after all. The Trojans' offensive coordinator is currently interviewing for the vacant Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator job. The #Eagles are interviewing Southern Cal OC Graham Harrell for their OC vacancy today, NFL sources said.— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) January 17, 2020Harrell recently signed a contract extension with USC after his remarkable turnaround of the team's offense and development of true freshman quarterback Kedon Slovis. With Slovis leading the way, USC's offense blossomed in 2019. The Trojans finished sixth nationally in passing offense (335.8 yards per game), 20th in total offense (455.4 yards per game) and scored 32.5 points per game this season (which ranked 35th). That comes…
data-mm-id=”_rq65j297k”>Todd Gurley and Clay Matthews were cut by the Rams on the same day a few weeks ago and the two former superstars took to Twitter on Wednesday to complain about the Rams not paying them money owed from their time with the franchise. @RamsNFL past due. Send me money ASAP— Todd Gurley II (@TG3II) April 8, 2020If true, it's a legitimate gripe. They signed a contract with the Rams and should be paid on time based on the parameters set. Taking to Twitter seems a bit silly when you have an agent to handle these matters, but all the same, they both voiced their displeasure. You and me both TG! ? Better get some interest with that too ? https://t.co/E8RIOhg7sH— Clay Matthews III (@ClayMatthews52) April 9, 2020However, during these trying times, when millions of …
data-mm-id=”_ur0mmx1x8″>Notre Dame will finally be part of a conference in football. Yes, the Fighting Irish will play a full ACC schedule as part the 2020 season, expanding the partnership between the parties. To be clear, this is a one-season deal but the Irish will be eligible to win a conference title. If Notre Dame was smart, this would be the first step towards full membership. The ACC set its schedule on Thursday, announcing Notre Dame would play a full 10-game conference slate, while also being allowed to play one non-conference game. The non-conference game must be played in the home state of the ACC institution and the opponent must adhere to all of the conference's medial protocol requirements. So basically, Notre Dame can host a non-conference game if its opponent follo…
